Netflix has disclosed that it paid $587 million in cash to acquire InterPositive, the artificial intelligence startup co-founded by actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck. The purchase price was revealed in a recent regulatory filing, months after Netflix announced the acquisition without disclosing its financial terms. Earlier reports had suggested the deal could be worth as much as $600 million.

When the acquisition was announced in March, Netflix confirmed that the entire InterPositive team would join the company, with Affleck taking on the role of senior adviser. Affleck said the startup’s AI technology is designed to support filmmakers during post-production by addressing practical challenges such as missing shots, background replacements and incorrect lighting, while helping preserve human creativity rather than replacing it.

The acquisition comes as Netflix continues expanding its use of artificial intelligence across its content production process. In its latest earnings report, the streaming company revealed that around 300 of its titles have already incorporated generative AI. The investment signals Netflix’s continued focus on AI-assisted production tools that improve efficiency while supporting filmmakers throughout the creative process.
