Anthropic enterprise AI strategy drives deeper Claude adoption

Anthropic’s IPO filing reveals growing enterprise adoption across its Claude platform and applications. More than half of its major customers now use both, while the company reports 900% net revenue retention and expanding demand for Claude Code.

Anthropic enterprise AI strategy is centered on expanding how businesses use Claude across their operations. Its IPO filing, submitted Oct. 26, shows that customers are increasingly adopting multiple products rather than relying on a single AI tool.

More than half of customers spending at least $100,000 annually now use both Claude’s developer platform and applications such as Claude Code or Cowork. That compares with approximately 30% at the end of 2025, according to Anthropic’s SEC filing.

Anthropic Enterprise AI Strategy Drives Customer Spending

Anthropic reported more than 11,900 customers generating at least $100,000 in annual revenue as of Sept. 30.

The company also reported net revenue retention of approximately 900%. This measure reflects substantial spending growth among existing customers, rather than a conventional customer retention rate.

Anthropic attributes that expansion to organizations deploying Claude across additional departments and workflows. Its products span three connected areas: AI models, the Claude developer platform and applications designed for specific tasks.

For example, businesses can start by adopting Claude through an API before introducing Claude Code to engineering teams. They can then expand access through Cowork, which helps employees complete research, document processing and other workplace tasks.

The strategy is already visible in major enterprise agreements. Anthropic’s partnership with Allianz includes access to Claude Code and the development of customized AI agents for employees.

Claude Code Creates Higher-Value Enterprise Users

Claude Code is becoming an important driver of customer spending. In the third quarter, the top 5% of Claude Enterprise users who adopted Claude Code spent about 20 times more per month than average enterprise users without it.

The comparison highlights a significant spending difference between customer groups. However, it does not establish that adopting Claude Code alone caused the increase.

Anthropic is supporting adoption through its Applied AI teams, which help companies integrate Claude into existing technology systems. It has also launched Ode with Anthropic alongside Blackstone and other private equity partners.

Ode uses specialized engineers to develop customized AI applications inside businesses. Demand for these forward-deployed engineers has increased as companies seek practical returns from AI spending.

Cloud Partnerships Expand Reach but Create Risks

Anthropic distributes Claude through Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. Its agreements generally preserve direct contractual relationships with customers while compensating cloud providers for distribution.

Anthropic says this structure allows it to control pricing and maintain customer relationships. The partnerships also help businesses access Claude through familiar cloud infrastructure.

However, those same providers are developing competing AI products. Anthropic warns that cloud partners could prioritize their own computing requirements or rival services, potentially limiting its access to infrastructure.

The tension is especially visible in Microsoft’s expanding enterprise AI business, where proprietary models and agents increasingly compete with Anthropic’s offerings.

Customer concentration presents another challenge. Anthropic disclosed that its five largest customers accounted for approximately 25% of revenue during the first nine months of 2026. Losing a major customer or experiencing reduced spending could materially affect its financial performance.

The risks accompany substantial growth. Anthropic generated $16.3 billion in revenue during the first half of 2026, up from $1.2 billion a year earlier.

Rather than concentrating exclusively on existing products, Anthropic says it intends to introduce new categories of AI applications. Its enterprise strategy depends on convincing customers to adopt those capabilities as they become available.
