DoorDash Launches AI Agent That Lets Users Order Food Through Text

DoorDash is launching an AI agent that lets users order food by text message, bringing a conversational approach to food delivery.

The new tool lets users place orders through Apple Messages with simple prompts, including requests like “order my usual,” with the AI agent understanding past ordering patterns and preferences.

AI Agent Simplifies Food Ordering

With the new DoorDash AI ordering experience, users can ask for specific dishes, request local restaurant recommendations, and receive suggested carts based on their preferences.

The AI agent can also send photos of recommended dishes and help manage group orders by handling different dietary preferences, quantities, and individual requests in a single order.

DoorDash Expands AI Push

The launch comes as food delivery companies explore AI agents that can complete tasks without requiring users to navigate apps or websites. DoorDash is positioning the feature as a way to make ordering faster and more personalised while competing with services such as Uber Eats and Grubhub.

DoorDash is opening a waitlist for U.S. users to access the new AI ordering feature.

Alongside the AI agent launch, the company also announced plans to begin testing delivery drones with select restaurants in Northern California.
