Facebook Launches Seller App and Free Verification for Marketplace Users
Facebook has introduced a dedicated Seller app for Marketplace users, a free identity verification system, and a redesigned full-screen video experience to boost engagement.
Facebook is introducing a series of updates aimed at improving user engagement and making the platform easier to navigate, including a dedicated Marketplace app for sellers, a free identity verification system and a redesigned video experience.
The announcements build on the continued popularity of Facebook Marketplace, which the company said hosts more than 430 million monthly listings and serves over 1.1 billion active users. Marketplace has become one of the platform’s strongest attractions for younger audiences, prompting Meta to invest in new tools for buyers and sellers.
Among the biggest additions is a standalone app called Seller, designed for people who regularly list products on Facebook Marketplace. The app allows sellers to manage listings, communicate with buyers and monitor the performance of their items from a single interface.
By separating selling tools from the main Facebook app, Meta aims to streamline the experience for users who rely on Marketplace as a business or frequent selling platform while reducing clutter in the primary social networking app.
Free verification for Marketplace, Dating and Groups
Facebook is also launching a new free verification feature called Facebook Verified. Despite the similar name, it is different from the paid Meta Verified subscription that offers a blue verification badge and additional account benefits.
With the new system, users can verify that they are real people by submitting a selfie. Once approved, a verification mark displaying a check mark inside a white circle will appear on their profile across Facebook Marketplace, Facebook Dating and Facebook Groups.
The company said the new verification process is intended to improve trust between users and make it easier to identify authentic accounts when buying, selling or interacting within communities.
Immersive video experience coming to Facebook.
Meta is also testing an optional full-screen video interface that opens immediately when users launch the Facebook app. The immersive design is initially rolling out in international markets where video consumption is particularly high before expanding to the United States next year.
Users who prefer the traditional Facebook experience will be able to turn off the new interface and return to the standard feed. The company has previously experimented with similar full-screen video designs on Instagram in selected markets.
More standalone apps and AI-powered tools
The latest announcements continuMeta’s's strategy of releasing dedicated applications tailored to specific communities and use cases. In recent months, the company introduced Forum, a Reddit-style app built around Facebook Groups, and Pocket, a new vibe-coding application.
Meta also plans to integrate artificial intelligence into the Seller app to simplify common Marketplace tasks. Future AI features are expected to help users automatically generate product descriptions, create listings more quickly and search through Facebook Groups to find answers to questions.
With these updates, Meta is expanding Facebook beyond traditional social networking by strengthening Marketplace, improving user verification and introducing AI-powered productivity tools while continuing to invest in video-focused experiences across its platform.
