GTA 6 time-off requests are running nearly 13% above historical levels for November 19, 2026, according to a BambooHR report published October 22. The increase coincides with the scheduled release of Grand Theft Auto VI. However, the HR software company cannot confirm that every additional vacation request is directly related to the game.
The latest findings update an earlier September analysis that showed increases ranging from 9% to 17%. BambooHR’s October report uses anonymized leave records covering more than 3.4 million U.S. employees. It also includes a separate survey of 1,530 full-time American workers, conducted October 9–20, about their entertainment plans.
GTA 6 Time-Off Requests Rise Ahead of November 19 Launch
BambooHR first reported elevated vacation requests in September 2026. At that time, requests for November 19 ran 9% to 17% above historical averages. The comparison used equivalent Thursdays in previous years rather than consecutive weeks in 2026.
The company’s October 22 report provided a more recent measurement. Using records collected through October 19, BambooHR found requests for November 19 nearly 13% higher than comparable Thursdays in 2024 and 2025.
The pattern continued into the following weekend. Requests for Friday, November 20, were almost 11% higher than historical levels. Saturday and Sunday each showed increases approaching 9%.
However, BambooHR also identified a general increase of approximately 2% to 4% in vacation requests during 2026. The company therefore cannot attribute the entire launch-week increase to GTA 6. Its findings measure requests submitted before release, not confirmed employee absences.
Nearly One in Five Workers Plans to Take Launch Day Off
BambooHR’s separate employee survey provides additional insight into the potential workplace impact. Approximately 18% of respondents said they planned to take November 19 off specifically for GTA 6. The proportion was particularly high among younger employees.
Among Generation Z respondents, 32% said they planned to take leave. The figure reached 27% among millennials. These results suggest strong interest among younger workers, although stated intentions may not become actual absences.
The survey also examined how employees arrange time away for entertainment releases. Among respondents planning leave for an upcoming video game launch, 50% said they expected to call in sick rather than schedule vacation.
That finding covers upcoming game releases generally, not GTA 6 alone. It also reflects reported intentions rather than verified behavior. Employers therefore cannot use the survey to predict exactly how many workers will be absent.
Rockstar Prepares for GTA 6 Release on PS5 and Xbox
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games has not announced an official PC release date. The new installment returns players to Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida.
The story follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as they get caught up in a larger criminal conspiracy. Rockstar has promoted the game’s setting, characters, and action through trailers and other announcements.
The upcoming release follows Grand Theft Auto V, one of the most commercially successful video games ever released. Its predecessor maintained a large audience across multiple console generations. That history helps explain the considerable attention surrounding GTA 6.
Rockstar has continued to share information on its official Grand Theft Auto VI website. Players should consult the publisher for confirmed release details and platform availability.
What the Increase Means for Employers
The BambooHR findings suggest major entertainment launches can influence workplace scheduling. Employers may receive additional vacation requests around November 19, particularly from younger employees. However, the available figures do not establish how many workers will ultimately be absent.
There is also insufficient evidence to calculate a reliable national productivity loss from the reported increase. Vacation requests do not necessarily represent lost productivity. Some employees may arrange their schedules or complete their work before taking leave.
The distinction between submitted requests and actual absences remains important. BambooHR’s historical comparisons measure leave request volume for specific dates. Its employee survey separately measures what respondents say they intend to do.
Both findings indicate heightened interest around the launch. Neither shows that GTA 6 caused each additional request. Other personal, workplace, and seasonal factors may contribute to the observed increase.
For employers, the data offers an early indication of possible scheduling pressure. Planning for anticipated absences may be more useful than assuming employees will call in sick.
The clearest finding is that vacation requests for November 19 are nearly 13% above comparable historical levels. That figure comes from BambooHR’s October 22 update, while the earlier September analysis reported increases of up to 17%. Whether the requests translate into a similar rise in actual absences will become clearer after launch day.
