Google Adds Android Features for Motion Sickness, Accessibility, and Personalisation

Google is rolling out a new Android update with features designed to improve accessibility, personalisation, and everyday usability. The update introduces tools to reduce motion sickness, help blind and low-vision users, remember important items, and customise Google Messages.

According to Google’s Android update announcement, the latest features combine Android improvements with Gemini-powered tools to provide more personalised assistance.

Android Motion Assist Helps Reduce Motion Sickness

The most notable addition is Motion Assist, a feature designed for users who experience motion sickness while using their phones in moving vehicles. It adds a bubble overlay that responds to vehicle movement, helping reduce the disconnect between visual information on the screen and the body’s sense of motion.

Users can enable Motion Assist automatically, add it to Quick Settings, and customise elements such as the bubble’s shape, colour, and transparency. Google says the feature is available for Android 17 users.

Gemini Expands Android Accessibility Features

Google is also introducing Guided Vision, a feature built for blind and low-vision users that combines the phone camera with Gemini. The tool can help users read small text, identify objects, and understand surroundings in situations such as reading menus or product labels.

Guided Vision can also provide voice instructions when the camera is misaligned, telling users to adjust the phone’s angle, move around, or centre an object. The feature will be available on phones running Android 9 and newer in regions where Gemini is supported.

Gemini Adds Smarter Item Reminders and Messages Updates

Another update adds a remembered items feature in Find Hub, allowing users to tell Gemini where they stored important belongings. Users can save details such as where a passport or other item was placed and attach photos to make items easier to identify later.

Google is also adding Google Keep integration to Google Messages, allowing users to share and edit lists, notes, and plans directly inside conversations. The messaging app is gaining additional customisation options, including chat backgrounds, photos, and colours that automatically adjust text bubble designs.
