Google Tests Gemini AI Agent That Can Call Businesses

Google is testing a new Gemini feature that lets its AI assistant call businesses for users, expanding the role of AI agents in handling everyday tasks.

Called “Call for Me,” the feature will initially be available to Pixel 11 users in the U.S. who subscribe to Gemini. It will require the beta version of Google’s Android Phone app. Google has previously introduced AI-powered calling features through its Phone app.

Gemini Can Handle Business Calls

Unlike earlier AI calling tools with limited functions, Call for Me allows Gemini to share approved personal information during calls. Google says this lets the assistant complete more complex tasks while users stay in control.

The AI can call businesses to check product availability, make restaurant reservations, reschedule appointments, or place items on hold. Users can follow conversations through a live transcript and take over the call at any time.

Building on Google’s AI Calling Experiments

Google has spent years developing AI-assisted calling features. The company previously demonstrated Google Assistant making natural phone calls for tasks such as booking appointments.

More recent tools have included features that help users navigate automated phone systems, wait on hold, or connect with customer service representatives.

A Limited Experiment for Gemini

Google says Call for Me is launching at a small scale because real-world conversations can be unpredictable. The company plans to continue improving the feature before expanding availability.

The rollout reflects a broader move by AI companies to create agents that can complete tasks across digital services and real-world interactions rather than answer questions.
