Google is expanding the role of its Gemini Spark personal AI agent by adding the ability to manage users’ Google Photos libraries. The new features allow eligible users to ask Gemini Spark to perform tasks such as editing images, organising albums, creating shared collections, and automating photo-related workflows.
The company said Gemini Spark can also handle tasks that connect photos with other Google services. For example, users can ask the AI to turn information from images, such as concert flyers, into calendar events.
Google’s support documentation explains how Gemini features can connect with Google services, including the requirements for using available integrations.
New Google Photos Features Roll Out to Eligible Subscribers
Google Photos lead Shimrit Ben-Yair announced the new capabilities in a post on X, saying the features will begin rolling out over the next few weeks to eligible Gemini AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States using English.
Ben-Yair shared details about the Google Photos integration, although Google has not announced a timeline for availability in other countries.
To use Gemini Spark with Google Photos, users need to connect their Google Photos account to Gemini, enable Spark from the Gemini app, and provide a prompt describing the task they want the AI to complete.
Google Expands Consumer AI Features
The Google Photos integration reflects Google’s broader effort to make AI assistants more useful for everyday consumer tasks. Instead of only answering questions, Gemini Spark is being positioned as a tool that can complete actions across connected services.
The move arrives as AI companies continue working to demonstrate practical consumer benefits from their products. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently said the industry has struggled to communicate the value of AI technology to users.
