Apple unveiled its new 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro on Tuesday, Oct. 27, bringing faster processing, improved AI performance and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. The laptop starts at $1,999 and offers up to 24 hours of battery life, according to Apple.
The company also introduced an M6-powered iMac starting at $1,499. Both devices are available for preorder Oct. 28, with sales beginning Nov. 6.
M6 MacBook Pro Delivers Faster Graphics and AI Performance
The new M6 chip features a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators. Apple claims up to 30% faster graphics and 25% faster AI workloads compared with the M5 generation.
According to Apple’s announcement, the processor delivers up to 13 times faster initial responses when processing large language model prompts than the M1 MacBook Pro. In that test, performance is also up to 1.3 times faster than the M1 model.
The laptop starts with 16GB of unified memory and is configurable up to 32GB. Memory bandwidth increases to 170GB/s, compared with 153GB/s on the M5.
The improvements build on Apple’s earlier M5 MacBook lineup, which emphasized faster processing and on-device AI capabilities.
Battery Life, Connectivity and Design
The M6 MacBook Pro retains its Liquid Retina XDR display, with an optional nano-texture finish to reduce glare. It also includes a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera and a six-speaker audio system.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, MagSafe 3, an SDXC card slot and a headphone jack.
Apple promises up to 24 hours of battery life. Fast charging can restore 50% capacity in approximately 30 minutes using a compatible high-wattage USB-C adapter.
The laptop runs macOS 27, with expanded Apple Intelligence and Siri AI capabilities. Buyers can choose Space Black or Silver.
Apple Introduces M6 iMac Starting at $1,499
Alongside the laptop, Apple announced a redesigned iMac lineup powered by the M6 chip. The desktop features a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display and improved computing performance.
Apple claims up to five times faster on-device AI performance compared with the M4 iMac. The new model also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 and up to four Thunderbolt 4 ports.
The iMac runs macOS 27 and comes in seven colors: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver.
The base iMac costs $1,499, while the configuration with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU starts at $1,699. Both new Macs will reach customers and Apple retail stores on Nov. 6.
