Amazon cuts 84 jobs across its Seattle and Bellevue operations under a Washington state employment notice filed in December 2025. The affected positions include software engineering, recruiting, product management and other corporate functions. The departures were scheduled for February 2 through February 23, 2026.
The reductions were separate from Amazon’s much larger corporate restructuring announced in October 2025. The company said it eliminated the 84 positions through individual business decisions rather than as part of another stage of its companywide workforce reduction.
Amazon’s Washington Filing Details 84 Job Reductions
Washington’s Employment Security Department received Amazon’s official WARN notice on December 13, 2025. It identified approximately 84 employees whose positions were expected to be eliminated.
The notice listed more than 30 Amazon office locations across Seattle and Bellevue. It also included six remote employees living elsewhere in Washington.
Rather than concentrating on one office or department, the reductions covered positions throughout the company’s corporate organization. The filing identified software development engineers, program managers, recruiting specialists, human resources employees, product managers and user experience designers.
Senior employees were also affected. Job titles included directors, principal-level specialists, and managers, as well as individual contributors in technical and administrative roles.
Several Seattle offices had multiple affected positions. The filing identified 10 employees at Amazon’s SEA41 location on Seventh Avenue and eight at SEA23 on Terry Avenue.
The range of positions suggests the changes spanned different teams. However, the filing does not provide enough information to establish the financial or operational circumstances behind each decision.
Amazon Says the Cuts Were Unrelated to Its Larger Layoffs
Amazon characterized the 84 job cuts as routine organizational adjustments rather than part of its previously announced mass layoffs.
In comments reported by GeekWire, company spokesperson Brad Glasser said the decisions arose from individual business reviews. Amazon also described the support it is providing to affected employees.
The distinction matters because Amazon announced a much larger restructuring less than two months earlier.
On October 28, 2025, Amazon confirmed plans to eliminate approximately 14,000 corporate roles worldwide. In its official employee announcement, the company said it wanted to simplify management structures, increase accountability and redirect resources toward business priorities.
A separate Washington filing associated with that October announcement identified 2,303 affected employees in the state.
Amazon did not present the additional 84 jobs disclosed in December as another phase of that same corporate program.
When Were the Amazon Employees Scheduled to Leave?
Amazon’s December filing set separation dates between February 2 and February 23, 2026.
Affected employees began receiving notifications in early November 2025. According to the notice, Amazon provided at least 89 days’ notice before the scheduled separation dates, exceeding the 60-day notice requirement referenced in the filing.
The company also allowed affected employees to seek other positions internally. Workers who secured transfers before their scheduled departure dates would not lose their employment through the action described in the notice.
Amazon told GeekWire it would provide affected employees with 90 days of pay and benefits, transitional health coverage, and job-placement assistance.
The Washington Employment Security Department’s WARN guidance explains the state’s requirements for notifying workers and government agencies about qualifying layoffs and closures.
The December notice also reflected Washington’s expanded reporting rules, which can require additional disclosures after an earlier layoff notification. As a result, the filing should not be interpreted as evidence that the smaller cuts were automatically connected to the broader October restructuring.
Amazon Continued Restructuring Into 2026
The December announcement came amid repeated workforce changes at Amazon.
On January 28, 2026, the company announced another major corporate reduction, this time affecting approximately 16,000 roles worldwide.
In an official update to employees, senior vice president Beth Galetti said Amazon was continuing efforts to simplify its organization and reduce management layers.
The January announcement was distinct from the December filing covering 84 Washington positions. It involved a much larger restructuring, with a separate timeline and broader impact.
The different announcements show why Amazon layoffs should be tracked by disclosure date, affected employees, and scheduled implementation periods.
TechAmerica.ai’s 2025 technology layoffs report provides broader coverage of the industry’s job reductions during that year. A separate 2026 technology layoffs report examines subsequent announcements and the changing priorities of major technology employers.
For the 84 employees identified in Amazon’s December notice, the central facts remain clear: the positions were spread across Washington operations, the departures were scheduled for February 2026, and Amazon said the decisions were not part of its October companywide layoff program.
