Uber Cuts 3,300 Jobs in Restructuring Move to Reduce Management Layers

Uber is cutting about 3,300 jobs worldwide as part of a restructuring aimed at reducing management layers and simplifying operations. The company said the changes will allow it to focus more resources on ride-sharing, delivery and robotaxi businesses.

CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the changes in an internal message published online Wednesday. The restructuring will reduce Uber’s management roles by about 20%, with some managers moving into individual contributor positions.

Bloomberg first reported the layoffs, which affect roughly 10% of Uber’s global workforce. The company is also reducing the number of teams with one or two members and eliminating positions that are more than seven reporting layers below the CEO.

As part of its organisation, Uber is combining its engineering, science and delivery groups. The company is also bringing together delivery operations across restaurants, retail and direct business units.

Uber said its rapid expansion has created additional complexity, including more management layers, coordination challenges and fragmented ownership. The company said the restructuring is intended to create a simpler and more efficient organisation.

The company is also reducing remote work options, with fewer than 1% of employees expected to continue working remotely after the changes.
