YouTube Adds AI-Powered Conversational Editing Tool for Creators

YouTube is launching a new AI-powered conversational editing tool that allows creators to improve videos by giving instructions in natural language. The feature is designed to speed up video editing while letting creators keep control of the final result.

YouTube announced the conversational editing feature during its Made On YouTube event. The tool will be available for YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app.

Creators Can Edit Videos Through AI Conversations

The new editing system works through a chat-style interface where creators can explain what they want the AI to do. Instead of manually searching through footage, creators can ask the tool to select clips, improve structure, add transitions, or make other changes.

During the demonstration, YouTuber Happy Kelli showed how the tool could review multiple recordings of a dance video and choose the strongest takes for different outfits. The AI could then add music and transitions based on the creator’s instructions.

AI Editing Keeps Manual Controls Available

YouTube says creators can still return to the editing timeline and make manual adjustments whenever they want. The company describes the tool as a collaborative editing assistant, not a replacement for creator decisions.

The feature can also help with tasks such as adding text overlays, removing pauses in speech, and suggesting edits based on the conversation context.

YouTube Expands AI Tools for Video Creation

AI-powered editing could reduce the time creators spend on repetitive editing tasks, especially for videos that require reviewing large amounts of footage. However, some creators may prefer traditional workflows because editing style and creative choices are often part of their identity.

Conversational editing will roll out for YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app in early 2027.
