Reddit’s For You feed is rolling out globally as the platform introduces a new way to discover posts and communities. The redesigned homepage offers two options: For You and Following.
Reddit announced the update Wednesday, saying it aims to improve community discovery and give users more control over their feeds.
How Reddit For You Feed and Following Work
The For You feed combines posts from joined communities with personalized recommendations based on users’ interests. It helps people discover conversations and communities beyond their existing subscriptions.
The Following feed focuses on posts from communities users have joined. Reddit also allows users to switch between the two feeds and remembers their last selection when they return.
The change brings Reddit closer to recommendation-driven platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and X. These services increasingly use algorithms to surface content beyond accounts users follow. X has also expanded the technology behind its For You recommendation system.
Some Reddit Users Oppose Recommended Content
The redesign has already received mixed reactions. During earlier testing, some users complained about unwanted posts from communities they hadn’t joined appearing.
Others questioned the recommendations appearing on their homepages, arguing that they preferred controlling which communities appeared in their feeds.
Reddit has recommended content from outside subscribed communities for years. The new design separates those suggestions from a dedicated Following feed.
The company says the change is intended to encourage participation and introduce users to relevant conversations. It also plans to explore additional recommendation controls, including options to hide unwanted posts.
The new feed experience will roll out to users worldwide over the next few weeks. Reddit has not specified when it will complete the rollout in individual markets.
