Airbnb AI Travel Agent to Bring Personalized Trip Planning in 2027

Airbnb plans to introduce a specialized AI travel agent in the first half of 2027. The new experience will combine interactive maps, photos, calendars and itineraries with booking assistance, payment support and reservation management.

Airbnb AI travel agent development is moving toward a planned launch in the first half of 2027. The company confirmed the timeline on November 5, 2026, alongside its third-quarter financial results. The upcoming assistant will help guests research destinations, compare accommodations and manage travel reservations.

Unlike conventional chatbots, Airbnb’s agent will generate interactive travel interfaces using maps, photos, calendars and itineraries. CEO Brian Chesky said the technology is designed to support travelers throughout the booking process, not just answer questions.

Airbnb AI Travel Agent Will Build Personalized Travel Interfaces

The new assistant will use hundreds of interface components to create personalized responses. Travelers could describe their preferences and receive relevant accommodation options, maps, comparisons and suggested itineraries.

Airbnb says the approach reflects how customers research vacations. More than 75% of guests use maps when choosing accommodations, while over 90% browse multiple listing photos.

The company also found that 70% of guests read reviews before booking. These behaviors influenced its decision to develop a visual interface rather than rely on text conversations alone.

During Airbnb’s third-quarter earnings presentation, Chesky explained that the assistant would help guests make decisions collaboratively. Additional information about the company’s performance is available through its quarterly financial results.

AI Assistant Will Support Bookings and Reservations

Airbnb plans to integrate the agent with its existing reservation and payment systems. This could allow guests to modify bookings, resolve payment issues and request refunds without switching between services.

The assistant is also expected to help with rebooking and access to Airbnb’s 24-hour safety support. These functions would extend its usefulness beyond finding accommodations.

Chesky previously discussed the planned rollout at the Skift Global Forum in September. He described the forthcoming experience as a significant change from conventional AI chat interfaces, as reported by Skift.

Over time, Airbnb wants the assistant to support more travel services, including hotels, local experiences and other trip-related bookings. The company has not announced when those additional capabilities will become available.

Airbnb Expands AI Features as Revenue Grows

The announcement followed a strong third quarter for Airbnb. Revenue increased 19% year over year to approximately $4.9 billion, representing its fastest growth in more than three years.

Airbnb also reported that its existing AI assistant resolved approximately 40% of customer support issues without human intervention. That figure increased from about one-third in the previous quarter.

Meanwhile, the company is introducing AI-powered search filters, listing summaries and accommodation comparisons. These features are designed to help guests find suitable properties more efficiently.

Airbnb expects to begin rolling out its specialized travel agent during the first six months of 2027. Airbnb has not announced pricing, geographic availability, or the full set of launch features.
