CloudNC Raises $20 Million to Expand AI-Powered Manufacturing Software
CloudNC raised $20 million to expand its AI-powered CAM Assist software that helps manufacturers automate CNC machining workflows.
UK-based manufacturing software startup CloudNC has raised $20 million in a Series B extension round to expand its artificial intelligence tools designed to improve CNC machining workflows.
The new funding brings CloudNC’s total capital raised to $128 million. Founded in 2015 by CEO Theo Saville and Chief Science Officer Chris Emery, the company develops AI-powered software that helps manufacturers automate parts of the computer-aided manufacturing process.
The manufacturing sector has been under pressure to improve efficiency while addressing workforce challenges. Deloitte research has highlighted ongoing labour challenges affecting the U.S. manufacturing industry, while McKinsey has examined efforts to strengthen manufacturing resilience and production capacity.
CloudNC Uses AI to Improve CNC Machining
CloudNC’s main product, CAM Assist, works alongside existing computer-aided manufacturing software to help machinists and programmers create machining strategies for computer-controlled machines.
CNC machining is used across industries, including automotive, defence, and consumer hardware, to cut and shape materials into precise components. Before manufacturing, experts must decide factors such as tool position, which tools to use, and which machining approach will deliver the required result.
Traditional CAM systems provide powerful tools, but many workflows still require programmers to define machining strategies manually. CloudNC’s CAM Assist is designed to generate recommendations for tool selection, approach directions, cutting speeds and the code needed to operate CNC machines.
AI Assistant Designed for Skilled Workers
CloudNC said CAM Assist is designed to support machinists rather than replace their expertise. The system lets users review, edit, and approve the generated recommendations before production begins.
The company compares the software to an expert assistant that handles repetitive planning tasks while allowing skilled workers to maintain control over final manufacturing decisions.
CloudNC said more than 1,000 machine shops worldwide use CAM Assist, with approximately 80% of its customers located in the United States.
Funding Will Support Expansion and New Products
Nimble Ventures led the funding round, which included Calculus Venture Capital, Entrepreneur First and LM Capital, Lockheed Martin’s venture investment arm.
CloudNC plans to use the investment to expand adoption of CAM Assist, strengthen its go-to-market operations, enter additional markets and develop new manufacturing products.
The company is also preparing Quote Agent, a tool designed to help manufacturers estimate project costs and risks more quickly. CloudNC said the product will help machine shops decide which projects to accept while improving how they manage limited resources.
With its latest funding, CloudNC is continuing its effort to bring AI automation into manufacturing processes as companies seek higher productivity while maintaining the role of skilled workers.
