Ema, a startup building AI agents for enterprise workflows, has raised $77 million in a Series B round as companies increasingly explore AI tools to automate business processes across HR, IT, and finance.

Bengaluru-based venture firm Creaegis led the round, with existing investors Accel, Section 32, and Prosus also increasing their investments. The funding brings Ema’s total capital raised to $140 million and more than quadruples its 2024 valuation, although the company did not disclose its latest valuation.

AI Agents Target Enterprise Software Workflows

Founded in 2023 by former Google and Coinbase executive Surojit Chatterjee and former Okta executive Souvik Sen, Ema develops what it calls “AI employees,” systems that coordinate multiple AI agents to complete multi-step business processes across existing enterprise applications.

Unlike traditional software tools designed around individual tasks, Ema’s platform focuses on automating broader workflows by connecting different systems and handling multiple steps within business operations. Ema provides AI agent solutions designed for enterprise automation.

Chatterjee said the company believes AI systems could eventually reduce dependence on some traditional software products and IT services by handling implementation, integration, and consulting tasks that businesses often outsource.

Enterprise Growth and Expansion Plans

Ema said it currently has more than 50 active enterprise deals, over 1 million enterprise users, and has processed more than 5 million actions and queries. Its customers include companies such as NTT DATA, Hitachi, ADP, PwC, Google, KPMG, Wipro, and Microsoft.

The startup said its revenue has grown 50 times over the past two years, while revenue bookings have exceeded $150 million. The company clarified that bookings represent the total value of multiyear contracts, not annual recurring revenue.

Ema said more than 90% of customers have expanded beyond their initial use cases, with some deploying its technology across multiple workflows. The company reported a net dollar retention rate of about 180%, meaning existing customers are spending more over time.

Funding to Support Global Growth

Ema has grown to nearly 200 employees, with offices in Bengaluru, London, Vancouver, and its headquarters in Mountain View. The company plans to use the new funding to expand sales and marketing efforts after focusing its early years on product development.

The startup currently serves customers mainly in the U.S. and Europe and plans to expand into Asia-Pacific, South America, and parts of the Middle East.
