Bluesky election night activity peaked in 2026 during the November 3 U.S. midterm elections. The decentralized social network recorded a surge in posts, likes, and new follows as users reacted to election results.
Bluesky CEO Toni Schneider confirmed the increase in a public post, saying posts and likes doubled during the elections. He also reported that new users were joining while former users returned to the platform.
Bluesky Election Night Activity Nears Daily Record
Open-source data showed approximately 44 million likes, 4.8 million posts and 2 million new follows on November 4. The figures approachedBluesky’ss record of 45 million daily likes, set in November 2024.
Chief Operating Officer Rose Wang said usage peaked between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Pacific time. Compared with the previous 30-day averages, posts increased 30%, while likes rose 70%. Clicks on shared links also climbed 20%.
The surge extended to network traffic, which increased approximately 200% above normal levels. Traffic reached a reported peak of 35.8 gigabytes per second.
Midterm Results Bring Users Back to Bluesky
Bluesky experienced its strongest period of user growth after the 2024 presidential election. Many people joined the platform while looking for an alternative to X, formerly Twitter.
The platform has attracted a substantial politically progressive audience, making election coverage an important driver of engagement. Democratic victories during the midterms coincided with increased activity and renewed participation.
The figures suggest major political events can bring users back to Bluesky. However, a temporary increase in posts and likes does not necessarily indicate sustained growth in daily active users.
