Amazon Echo Time Adds Sleep-Sensing Alarms for $199.99

Amazon’s Echo Time introduces a 3.2-inch circular touchscreen, customizable clock faces, and optional sleep-sensing alarms. The $199.99 bedside device offers Alexa+ and smart home controls, but costs considerably more than the Echo Spot.

The Amazon Echo Time brings a new approach to bedside alarms with a circular touchscreen, customizable clock faces, and optional sleep sensing. Announced on October 28, 2026, the $199.99 smart clock uses Alexa+ to manage alarms, bedtime routines, and connected home devices. Its biggest promise is waking users during lighter sleep without requiring a smartwatch or fitness tracker.

Amazon has designed the Echo Time specifically for bedrooms, with a camera-free design and a display that adjusts throughout the day. The features are appealing, but the high price makes it considerably more expensive than a conventional alarm clock or Amazon’s Echo Spot.

Amazon Echo Time Design and Display

The Echo Time features a spherical design with a 3.2-inch circular touchscreen. According to Amazon’s official announcement, users can choose from hundreds of clock faces, including analog designs, nature scenes, weather themes, and licensed characters.

Users can personalize the display through touch controls or Alexa voice commands. Unlike smaller Echo clocks, it offers enough screen space to show the time prominently while supporting everyday interactions.

Amazon has also introduced an adaptive display that changes with the time of day. During the evening, it automatically dims and reduces blue light. In the morning, the screen gradually brightens to simulate sunrise.

In its early coverage of Amazon’s new devices, WIRED highlighted the Echo Time’s camera-free construction and extremely dim display. The screen can reach approximately 0.3 nits, making it suitable for dark bedrooms.

However, the clock’s rounded housing takes up more bedside space than a compact digital alarm. Buyers with smaller nightstands should consider its dimensions before purchasing.

Smart Sleep Sensing and Gentle Wake-Up Alarms

The Echo Time’s main attraction is its optional smart alarm system. Instead of ringing at a fixed time, the device estimates when a user enters lighter sleep. It can then trigger an alarm within a selected w0 -to 660-minute windowbefore the scheduled wake-up time.

The feature uses Amazon’s Omnisense technology. Room temperature sensors and presence detection help identify sleeping routines, while ultrasound estimates breathing-related movements and proximity.

This approach does not require a wearable device. However, its sleep-stage estimates should not be confused with clinical sleep monitoring or comprehensive sleep tracking.

Amazon’s Alexa device documentation explains that sleep sensing is intended to support smart alarms, not diagnose or treat medical conditions. The accuracy of its wake-up timing will require independent evaluation.

Users who prefer predictable alarms can turn off the smart feature. Customizable alarm sounds start quietly and become more energetic with repeated snoozes, up to four times.

The Echo Time has also received the National Sleep Foundation’s SleepMark designation. That recognition reflects alignment with sleep-health principles, but does not independently establish that the device improves sleep quality.

Alexa+ Brings Personalized Bedtime Routines

Beyond alarms, the Echo Time operates as an Alexa+ smart speaker. Users can request weather updates, set reminders, play relaxing music, or adjust compatible smart home devices.

For example, Alexa+ can help establish a morning routine that combines an alarm with reminders about upcoming activities. At night, it can play calming audio or adjust a connected thermostat.

TechAmerica.ai previously examined Alexa+’s strengths and limitations, particularly its improvements in home automation and continued challenges with complex personal-assistant tasks.

The Echo Time may benefit from these improvements, although the reliability of its personalized routines still depends on Alexa+ and compatible services.

Some advanced features require Alexa+, which Amazon includes with Prime membership in supported markets. Buyers should consider subscription requirements before purchasing.

Privacy Controls and Bedroom Use

Amazon has excluded a camera from the Echo Time, unlike several Echo Show displays. The device includes a dedicated microphone mute button and visual indicators for Alexa activity.

Sleep sensing is optional and must be enabled by the user. Users can turn it off through the Alexa app or by muting the microphones.

The absence of a camera provides an important privacy distinction. However, the device still uses sensors and connected services to deliver its intelligent features. Users concerned about sleep-related data should review Amazon’s privacy settings before enabling smart alarms.

Amazon Kids Echo Time Adds Bedtime Features

Amazon also offers a child-focused version called the Kids Echo Time. It comes in Galactic Grape and Cosmic Lime, with pricing starting at $209.99.

The children’s edition includes one year of Amazon Kids+ and access to Sleep Studio. This feature offers bedtime content from services including Calm, Headspace, and Moshi.

Parents can establish sleep schedules through the Amazon Parent Dashboard. Children can also customize clock faces, set alarms, and ask Alexa age-appropriate questions.

The new clock forms part of Amazon’s broader hardware refresh. TechAmerica.ai recently covered the five new Alexa devices, including the Alexa Photo Frame, Echo Studio with Home Camera, and Echo Show 16.

Amazon Echo Time Price and Availability

The Echo Time became available in the United States on October 28, 2026. Amazon offers three standard colors: Graphite, Glacier White, and Coral Pink.

  • Amazon Echo Time: $199.99.
  • Matching adjustable stand: $39.99.
  • Echo Time and stand bundle: $239.98.
  • Amazon Kids Echo Time: From $209.99, including one year of Kids+.

The adjustable stand is sold separately, adding to the cost for buyers who want greater control over the display’s viewing angle.

The Echo Spot remains a cheaper option for basic alarms, music, and Alexa commands. However, it lacks the Echo Time’s larger circular display and new sleep-sensing alarm system.

Is the Amazon Echo Time Worth Buying?

The Amazon Echo Time combines useful bedside features with a more advanced approach to waking up. Its customizable display, gradual sunrise effect, and optional sleep sensing offer meaningful differences from conventional smart clocks.

However, $199.99 is a substantial price for an alarm-focused device. The practical value of its sleep sensing remains uncertain without extended independent testing.

The Echo Time makes the most sense for Alexa households interested in personalized bedtime routines and a dedicated bedside display. Buyers who need alarms, weather updates, and voice controls can save considerably by choosing an Echo Spot.

Amazon has created a more ambitious smart alarm clock, but whether it improves the waking experience will depend on how reliably its sleep-sensing technology performs in everyday use.
