Spotify Launches Taste Profile Tool to Let Users Control Recommendations
Spotify introduces Taste Profile, an AI-powered tool that lets Premium users adjust how the platform creates music and audio recommendations.
Spotify is rolling out a new feature called Taste Profile that allows Premium subscribers in the U.S. to see how the platform understands their listening preferences and adjust the recommendations shown on their Home feed.
The AI-powered feature lets users make changes through natural language requests, allowing them to ask for more variety, reduce certain recommendations, or adjust the overall style of music, podcasts, and audiobooks Spotify suggests. Spotify announced the Taste Profile rollout on its official newsroom.
How Taste Profile Changes Spotify Recommendations
Spotify’s recommendation system influences features such as Discover Weekly, Made for You playlists, and the company’s annual Spotify Wrapped experience. Taste Profile gives users a clearer view of the signals shaping those recommendations.
The feature is designed to address situations where recommendations no longer match a listener’s current interests. Users can adjust suggestions affected by temporary listening habits, such as music played for sleep or content played by another person using the same account.
AI-Powered Personalisation Expands
Spotify first introduced Taste Profile at SXSW and initially tested the feature with users in New Zealand before expanding it to the U.S. market. The company said the feature is currently available to Premium subscribers aged 18 and older.
Previously, Spotify allowed users to reduce the influence of individual tracks or playlists on recommendations. The new tool expands that control by letting users make broader changes through direct requests.
Feature Remains in Beta
Users can access Taste Profile in the mobile app by opening their profile, selecting Taste Profile, and describing the changes they want. Spotify says updated recommendations may appear on the Home page after a few hours.
The company says the feature can help listeners discover new genres, explore different eras of music, or adjust the type of podcasts and audiobooks recommended to them. Spotify has become one of the world’s largest audio platforms by audience reach. Industry data also tracks Spotify’s continued growth across users, revenue, and streaming activity. Taste Profile is still in beta, and Spotify has not announced when it will become available to a wider group of users.
