Uber AI agent bookings remain exceptionally rare. Just four rides were arranged through third-party AI assistants during Halloween week in October 2026. Uber disclosed the figures during its third-quarter earnings call on November 4, revealing limited consumer adoption of automated booking.
Chief Financial Officer Balaji Krishnamurthy said Uber processed approximately 320 million rides and delivery orders that week. AI agents generated only about 500 Uber Eats orders and four ride bookings.
Uber AI Agent Bookings Reveal Slow Consumer Adoption
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi acknowledged the low transaction volumes during the earnings call. He described AI-driven bookings as being in their early stages but expressed optimism about future adoption.
The figures contrast with growing industry investment in autonomous AI assistants. Companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Meta are developing agents that can shop, book services and complete transactions.
Consumer adoption remains limited across other platforms. DoorDash recently reported receiving only a few hundred orders through AI agents. Most customers still order directly through its app.
Uber’s Existing App Offers Faster Booking
Khosrowshahi suggested that convenience may explain why customers prefer Uber’s existing applications. Booking a ride takes approximately 50 seconds on average. Reordering a favorite meal through Uber Eats takes about 90 seconds.
These short booking times leave limited opportunities for AI assistants to improve convenience. Customers may see little benefit in using another interface for simple transactions.
The broader shift toward automated shopping raises similar questions. TechAmerica has examined how AI shopping agents could change interactions between consumers and online retailers.
Uber Sees Long-Term Potential in AI Assistants
Despite low adoption, Uber continues exploring partnerships with AI developers. Khosrowshahi believes third-party assistants could provide another channel for customers to access Uber’s services.
He estimated that approximately eight major AI assistants currently operate in the market. He expects that number to exceed 10 as more companies enter the sector.
Uber is already holding discussions with major AI companies. Khosrowshahi said these relationships could help drive additional demand for its transportation and delivery platforms.
The company disclosed these figures during its third-quarter earnings presentation. Details about its financial performance and investor announcements are available through Uber’s investor relations website.
For now, customers overwhelmingly prefer traditional booking methods. Uber’s Halloween-week figures show that AI agents account for only a tiny share of transactions across its services.
