Fireflies Adds AI Dictation Feature to Its Desktop Notetaking Apps

Fireflies, an AI meeting note-taking company, is expanding into AI dictation with a new feature that lets users convert speech into formatted text across desktop applications.

Called Fireflies Talk, the feature is available in the company’s Mac and Windows apps and lets users start dictating from any application using keyboard shortcuts. The tool transcribes speech and formats the text directly into the active app.

Fireflies Expands Beyond Meeting Notes

Fireflies has built its platform around AI-powered meeting transcription and workplace productivity tools. With Talk, the company is extending its voice AI capabilities into everyday tasks such as writing emails, creating documents, and generating prompts.

The company said users can activate dictation by pressing the Fn key on Mac or Ctrl + Win on Windows. Fireflies processes voice input, removes filler words, and formats the output into cleaner text.

Fireflies is including the dictation feature in its existing subscription plans rather than offering it as a separate product. The approach follows a broader trend among productivity companies combining multiple AI features into unified platforms.

Building an AI Assistant Beyond Meetings

Fireflies said it does not keep voice recordings from dictation sessions and stores transcripts locally. The company is also developing additional AI assistant features based on the context collected from user workflows.

The company has already introduced features that use meeting and workflow context to help users manage tasks, including tools for organising inboxes and drafting emails.

With Talk, Fireflies is positioning its AI assistant as a broader productivity tool that works beyond meetings and supports users across different desktop workflows.
