Nintendo Names November 1 Pikmin Day, Details Switch 2 Plans

Nintendo has designated November 1 as the annual Pikmin Day, announcing new features for Pikmin 4 on Switch 2, Secret Caves for Pikmin Bloom, and the Hello! Pikmin animated series. The Switch 2 edition launches November 12.

Nintendo is celebrating its first annual Pikmin Day on November 1, 2026, with new game features, mobile updates, and animated shorts. Pikmin creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced the celebration during a special presentation on October 31. The announcements include improvements to Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 and new content for Pikmin Bloom.

The celebration also introduces Hello! Pikmin, a series of animated short films featuring Nintendo’s colorful creatures. The announcements give fans several reasons to revisit the franchise, even though Nintendo has not revealed a new mainline game.

Pikmin Day Brings New Features to Pikmin 4

Nintendo confirmed that Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy will launch November 12. The updated game introduces improved visuals, voice commands, and additional challenges.

According to Nintendo’s official presentation, players can use the Switch 2’s built-in microphone to direct Oatchi, their canine companion. The feature adds another way to control the character during exploration.

The new Dandori Academy mode focuses on planning and efficiency. Players must collect treasures as quickly as possible across a series of challenges. Nintendo plans to release 72 stages over time, with different difficulty levels.

Special exams will take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Players can compare their results through online leaderboards and earn medals based on their performance. Eligible online features require a Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Nintendo has also confirmed a free demo for November 2. It will include the game’s opening area and two Dandori Academy challenges. Players can transfer save data to the full game.

Existing Pikmin 4 owners can buy a $9.99 upgrade pack instead of buying the full game again. This approach reflects Nintendo’s emphasis on preserving older software across hardware generations, explored in TechAmerica.ai’s history of Nintendo handhelds.

Pikmin Bloom Introduces Secret Caves

Nintendo also revealed Secret Caves, an upcoming feature for the mobile game Pikmin Bloom. The update will allow players to explore underground areas, battle creatures, and collect hidden treasures.

Players will need cave maps to discover these locations. Players can obtain maps through activities in Pikmin Bloom and certain Dandori Academy challenges.

The feature introduces more direct interactions with enemies. Players will command their Pikmin during encounters rather than focusing entirely on walking and collecting items.

Nintendo’s official Pikmin Bloom website provides information about the mobile game and its ongoing updates. Secret Caves are scheduled to arrive during winter, although Nintendo has not announced a specific release date.

Hello! Pikmin Animated Shorts Begin Monthly Releases

The third major announcement is Hello! Pikmin, a new animated short-film series created with Nintendo Pictures. Miyamoto introduced the project during the Pikmin Day presentation.

The first short, titled Frog, follows a Red Pikmin as it encounters a frog. It continues Nintendo’s recent interest in presenting Pikmin characters through animation.

A second installment is scheduled for November 1, followed by another later in November. Beginning in December, Nintendo plans to release one new short each month.

The films will appear through Nintendo’s official channels, including the Nintendo Today! mobile app. The project follows Close to You, an animated Pikmin short released in 2025.

As Game Informer reported, Nintendo’s presentation focused on expanding existing games and introducing new animated content.

With Pikmin Day now planned as an annual celebration, Nintendo has created another opportunity to highlight the series. The immediate focus remains on the November 12 release of Pikmin 4’s Switch 2 edition, the upcoming Pikmin Bloom update, and the continuing animated shorts.
