Alphabet delivered one of its strongest quarterly performances in recent years, providing fresh evidence that its aggressive investment in artificial intelligence is translating into rapid growth for its cloud business. The company’s second-quarter earnings showed Google Cloud revenue soaring well beyond analyst expectations, driven largely by enterprise demand for AI infrastructure and AI-powered services.

Investors have questioned whether Alphabet’s multibillion-dollar spending on AI infrastructure, data centres and advanced chips would generate meaningful financial returns. The latest results suggest those investments are beginning to pay off as businesses continue adopting Google’s AI offerings at a rapid pace.

Google Cloud posts strong AI-driven growth.

Alphabet reported Google Cloud revenue of $24.8 billion for the quarter, an 82% increase from the same period last year. The result exceeded Wall Street expectations of $22.46 billion and followed another strong quarter in which cloud revenue climbed 63% year over year to $20 billion.

The company attributed the growth primarily to increasing adoption of enterprise AI solutions and AI infrastructure. Alphabet also said its Google Cloud backlog, representing contracted work that has not yet been recognised as revenue, expanded to $514 billion, highlighting continued demand from enterprise customers.

Revenue and profit continue climbing.

Alphabet reported overall revenue of $119.8 billion during the quarter, up 24% from a year earlier. Google Services revenue also increased 15% to $94.5 billion, while the company reported profit of $112.1 billion, a substantial increase from the $28.1 billion reported during the same period last year.

CEO Sundar Pichai said thecompany’ss AI investments are driving momentum across its businesses. Alphabet also reported continued growth for Gemini, its AI chatbot, which now has 950 million monthly active users compared with 750 million users reported during the fourth quarter of 2025.

"Our AI investments are redefining what's possible across every part of our business. We have exciting momentum across the board," Pichai said during the company's earnings call.

Alphabet remains committed to AI spending.

Despite the strong financial results, Alphabet continues investing heavily in AI infrastructure. The company expects capital expenditures of between $180 billion and $190 billion this year to expand data centres, purchase chips, and strengthen computing capacity.

During the earnings call, analysts questioned when those investments would produce broader financial returns. Pichai said demand indicators remain strong, including long-term enterprise agreements, giving the company confidence to continue expanding its AI infrastructure.

"We are seeing strong demand indicators, including long-term deals. If anything, the dynamics look healthier than where we were about a year ago, so that's what gives us the confidence to undertake those investments," Pichai said.

The quarter also marked Alphabet’s 12th consecutive period of double-digit revenue growth, underscoring the company’s continued expansion as enterprise customers increasingly adopt AI-powered cloud services.
