Meta Muse downloads surpassed 10 million in the United States within 40 days of the AI assistant’s launch. The milestone places Muse among just 12 mobile apps to achieve that level of early adoption.
Market intelligence firm Sensor Tower estimates Muse accumulated 10.9 million downloads worldwide following its Sept. 8, 2026, debut. The firm’s data show approximately 10.2 million came from U.S. users.
Sensor Tower senior insights analyst Kara Lee said only 11 other apps had reached 10 million U.S. downloads within their first 40 days. The most recent was Meta’s Threads in July 2023. Other examples include Fortnite, PUBG Mobile and Pokémon GO, while Disney+ was another rare nongaming app.
Meta Muse Downloads Benefit From Heavy Advertising
Meta’s extensive distribution network has helped accelerate Muse’s growth. Facebook, Instagram and other Meta services collectively reach approximately 3.6 billion daily active users, giving the company substantial promotional reach.
The strategy resembles Meta’s earlier approach with Threads, which benefited from integration with Instagram. TechAmerica.ai previously reported that Muse surpassed 3.4 million downloads in September as Meta increased promotion across its platforms.
Advertising investment has grown considerably. Sensor Tower estimates Muse accounted for 39% of Meta’s advertising spending in October, compared with 23% in September.
Muse also climbed to 21st among U.S. brands ranked by advertising impressions in October, up from 73rd the previous month.
Muse Reports Higher Early Retention Than Rival AI Apps
Strong downloads do not necessarily guarantee continued engagement. However, Sensor Tower’s estimates indicate Muse has retained a larger share of early users than competing AI assistants.
In the United States, Muse recorded a 30% seven-day retention rate and a 23% rate after 14 days. ChatGPT, Claude, and Grok averaged 19% and 16% over those periods, respectively.
The app also reached 2.5 million daily active users on Oct. 16, representing a 15% increase from the previous week.
Muse is designed to complete tasks rather than answer questions. As TechAmerica.ai noted in its earlier Muse launch report, the assistant can connect to services for email, calendars, shopping, and payments.
Meta has also expanded Muse to Mac, adding the ability to interact with desktop applications and connected services.
Muse Outpaces ChatGPT in Early US Downloads
Sensor Tower estimates ChatGPT received 3.7 million U.S. downloads during its first 40 days. Grok recorded approximately 500,000, while Claude reached about 200,000 during comparable launch periods.
Globally, ChatGPT performed better, reaching roughly 15 million downloads within 40 days. That comparison reflects different geographic availability. Muse currently operates in the United States and Canada, while ChatGPT initially attracted downloads from several international markets.
Muse has also maintained a strong position in app store rankings. It held the top spot on Apple’s U.S. App Store throughout most of its early release, briefly losing first place to Kick on Oct. 19.
The assistant regained the lead the following day and has also ranked first on Google Play during the past month.
Although Muse’s early adoption and retention figures are encouraging for Meta, sustaining that engagement remains the longer-term challenge. Sensor Tower’s figures are estimates, and the app’s performance beyond its initial launch period is still developing.
