Google Launches Gemini 3.6 Flash and Two New AI Models Without 3.5 Pro

Google DeepMind has introduced three new Gemini artificial intelligence models aimed at improving efficiency, speed and specialised performance for developers and enterprise customers. Announced on Tuesday, the release includes Gemini 3.6 Flash, Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite and Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, while the anticipated Gemini 3.5 Pro model remains unavailable.

The latest rollout focuses on lower operating costs, faster response times and improved reliability for organisations building AI agents at scale. Although the new models expand Google’s Gemini portfolio, the company did not announce a release date for its next flagship Pro model.

Google Gemini 3.6 Flash targets efficiency and coding

Google describes Gemini 3.6 Flash as its primary workhorse model, offering stronger performance in coding, knowledge-based tasks and multimodal applications. The company said the model also reduces token usage by up to 17% compared with Gemini 3.5 Flash, lowering operating costs for customers.

Alongside it, Google launched Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite as its most cost-effective model in the Flash family. The company also introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, a version fine-tuned to identify and help fix cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Access to the cybersecurity model will initially be limited to governments and trusted partners through a pilot program.

Gemini Pro remains under development.

The announcement stood out not only because of the new Flash models but also becauseGoogle’ss flagship Gemini Pro model was absent. Gemini Pro, which is designed for advanced reasoning and coding workloads, was last updated in February.

Google had previously indicated that Gemini 3.5 Pro would follow the May release of Gemini 3.5 Flash. However, recent reports suggested the company has faced internal delays while working to meet its performance goals before a wider launch.

Google continues development amid rapid AI competition

The release comes as competition among major AI developers continues to accelerate, with rival companies introducing newer large language models over recent months. Google said its immediate focus is providing customers with efficient and reliable models suited for production environments.

Google DeepMind Product Lead Logan Kilpatrick said the company is currently testing Gemini 3.5 Pro with partners and hopes to release it soon. He also confirmed that the team has begun its most ambitious pre-training effort to date for Gemini 4.
