The Anthropic Nscale compute deal under discussion could add another $45 billion in AI infrastructure commitments, just weeks after the companies announced a similarly sized agreement. The latest negotiations involve a second data center facility in West Virginia.
According to Bloomberg, Nvidia-backed Nscale is negotiating the agreement with Anthropic, citing people familiar with the discussions. The proposed deal has not been finalized, and its terms could change.
Anthropic and Nscale Expand AI Computing Ambitions
The potential agreement follows an earlier $45 billion partnership announced in August. That arrangement involves computing capacity at N-Scale’s Monarch data center campus in West Virginia, using Nvidia’s Vera Rubin technology.
The new deal would further expand Anthropic’s infrastructure commitments as demand for its Claude AI models grows. According to The Information, the company has secured approximately $517 billion in computing agreements over 11 months.
Such spending has intensified concerns about whether AI companies can generate sufficient returns. As NBC News reported, some investors are increasingly questioning whether massive infrastructure investments are sustainable, despite Nvidia’s substantial profits.
IPO Plans Face Growing Investor Scrutiny
Both companies are pursuing public listings. CNN reports that Anthropic is preparing for an IPO before the end of the year.
Nscale faces a more immediate valuation challenge. Bloomberg reported that some investors have resisted its proposed $30 billion valuation, favoring a range of $16 billion to $19 billion.
The negotiations highlight Anthropic’s continued pursuit of computing capacity. However, financing requirements, construction timelines and investor confidence remain important uncertainties for large AI infrastructure projects.
