Granola AI Dictation is a new voice-typing feature that extends the company’s popular meeting notetaker to everyday writing tasks. Launched Thursday, the tool lets Mac users dictate text across applications, including email, messaging and AI assistants.
Users can press the Fn key and begin speaking. Granola automatically transcribes, cleans up and formats their words before inserting the text into the active application.
The feature is free for Granola users, with no word limits. The company plans to bring dictation to Windows, iOS and Android, although it has not announced release dates.
Granola AI Dictation Expands Beyond Meeting Notes
Granola built its business around AI-powered meeting transcription and automated summaries. The new feature extends its technology into writing emails, creating documents, responding to messages and composing AI prompts.
Granola says its dictation tool can recognize familiar names and workplace terminology using context from previous meetings. This could reduce corrections when users dictate technical or business-related content.
The expansion puts Granola in closer competition with Wispr Flow, which recently introduced meeting note-taking capabilities. Wispr raised $280 million in August at a $2 billion valuation, while Granola reached a $1.5 billion valuation earlier this year.
Voice AI Startups Expand Their Features
Granola and Wispr are not alone in combining dictation with meeting transcription. Fireflies introduced AI dictation for its desktop applications in September, while Speechify and Monologue have expanded their voice productivity tools.
These developments reflect growing competition among voice AI startups. Companies that previously specialized in individual tasks are increasingly combining speech recognition, meeting summaries and writing assistance within their existing products.
