The OpenAI $30 billion funding round could value the ChatGPT maker at $1.25 trillion before new investment. The company is reportedly negotiating another major private financing ahead of a potential stock market debut.
Investment firm Coatue and investors from the United Arab Emirates are leading discussions, CNBC reported on Oct. 22. The proposed deal could also include an agreement to provide OpenAI with additional computing capacity from the UAE.
OpenAI $30 Billion Round Ahead of IPO
The reported valuation is below the $1.4 trillion figure discussed in September. Negotiations remain ongoing, and the final terms could change.
If completed at the proposed valuation, the financing would bring OpenAI’s post-money value to approximately $1.28 trillion. That would make it one of the world’s most valuable privately held companies.
The talks follow OpenAI’s $122 billion financing in March, which valued the company at $852 billion after investment. OpenAI confidentially filed IPO paperwork in June but has not confirmed a listing date.
Anthropic Also Pursues a Trillion-Dollar Valuation
Rival Anthropic is preparing for a possible public offering after raising $65 billion in May at a $965 billion valuation. CNBC reported that the company could target a valuation between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion.
Anthropic also filed confidential IPO paperwork in June. Both companies are seeking substantial capital as they expand AI infrastructure and commercial operations.
OpenAI declined to comment on the fundraising discussions. Neither the proposed financing nor the company’s IPO timetable has been finalized.
