Reliance Jio Opens Cloud PC Service to Turn Older Computers Into AI-Ready PCs

Reliance Jio is expanding its cloud PC service in India, allowing users to access higher computing power on existing computers without replacing their hardware. The service, called JioPC, streams a virtual computer from Jio’s cloud infrastructure to users’ devices.

JioPC is now available as a standalone subscription for anyone with an internet connection, moving beyond its earlier availability for Jio broadband customers. The service offers virtual PC configurations with up to eight virtual CPUs, 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Jio said the platform can help older computers, including machines several years old, access the computing power required for modern applications and AI workloads without additional hardware upgrades.

Jio bets on cloud computing over hardware upgrades

The service comes as consumers and businesses keep computers longer before replacing them. By shifting processing and storage to cloud data centres, Jio is offering users an alternative to buying new machines.

IDC estimates India had more than 65 million PCs in use in 2025, with the installed base expected to grow further in 2026. Industry analysts say longer replacement cycles could create demand for services that provide computing power without requiring new hardware.

However, JioPC also faces challenges. The service requires a reliable internet connection, which may affect users in areas with weaker connectivity. Refurbished computers also remain an alternative for consumers who prefer owning their hardware.

The service also differs from traditional AI PCs, which typically include dedicated hardware for running AI workloads locally. Jio has not disclosed detailed information about the hardware powering JioPC’s cloud infrastructure.

Jio’s broader goal is to encourage users to pay for computing capability through a subscription rather than repeatedly upgrading their devices. The company will need to convince consumers that cloud-based computing can become a daily utility rather than only a temporary solution.
