Ford turns to Amazon to give used car sales a boost
Ford partners with Amazon Autos to offer certified pre-owned vehicles online, enabling shoppers to browse, finance, and complete paperwork digitally.
Ford is expanding its digital retail strategy by teaming up with Amazon to bring certified pre-owned vehicles to the Amazon Autos platform — marking a new phase in Amazon’s online car sales initiative, which debuted last year with Hyundai.
Announced on Monday, the agreement allows shoppers to browse, finance, and purchase certified used Ford models directly through Amazon Autos. While the buying process is designed to be mostly online, Ford is keeping its dealership network at the centre of the transaction. Customers can search a participating dealer’s inventory on Amazon, complete the majority of the paperwork digitally, and then schedule a pickup at the dealership.
Ford noted that every certified pre-owned vehicle listed by dealers on Amazon Autos will include a money-back guarantee. Buyers will have up to 14 days or 1,000 miles — whichever comes first — to return the vehicle if they’re not satisfied.
Amazon Autos mirrors the familiar shopping experience across Amazon’s broader ecosystem. Users can filter cars by model, trim, colour, and features, explore local dealer availability, secure financing, and electronically sign documents, all from within the site.
When Amazon Autos first launched, the focus was on brand-new vehicles, starting with Hyundai. Ford’s entry introduces a strong presence in the certified pre-owned segment while expanding Amazon’s role in automotive retail.
Initially, certified used Ford vehicles will be available on Amazon Autos in select U.S. markets, including Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas.
