Meta Leaks Its New Smart Glasses with a Display
Meta accidentally leaked a video revealing new Ray-Ban smart glasses with a display and a wristband to control them, along with Oakley smart glasses featuring a camera. These glasses are expected to be officially announced at Meta Connect 2025.
An unlisted and now-removed video from Meta revealed a new pair of Ray-Ban branded smart glasses featuring a display, along with a wristband designed to help control them, as reported by UploadVR. The video also showcased a new pair of wraparound "Sphaera" Oakley smart glasses, complete with a camera on the nose, suggesting that Meta may have unintentionally leaked two of its biggest announcements ahead of its Meta Connect event this week.
For the glasses featuring a display, the video prominently displayed branding that read “Meta | Ray-Ban” and “Display.” This hints that Meta might name them Meta Ray-Ban Display. The brief clip, shared by UploadVR, reveals that the display is positioned in the right lens of the glasses, with functionalities like asking Meta AI questions, viewing maps for navigation, translating signs, and using hand movements with the wristband to "write" responses to messages.
Earlier this year, CNBC reported that Meta’s wristband for the codenamed “Hypernova” glasses would use surface electromyography (sEMG) technology to detect signals from hand movements to control the device. This suggests that the video is likely showcasing that technology in action.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will present the Meta Connect keynote on Wednesday at 8 PM ET, where these new glasses are expected to officially debut. The Verge will be covering the keynote live.
Correction, September 15th: An earlier version of this article speculated about translucent versions of the HSTN Oakley glasses, but those are already on sale.
