Amazon has launched its upgraded Alexa+ conversational assistant in India, bringing Hindi support and improved artificial intelligence features to users across the country.

The assistant is available in Early Access in Hindi and English. Amazon said Alexa+ can maintain longer conversations, understand context, and complete complex multi-step tasks, including controlling smart home devices and ordering groceries through Amazon Now.

Alexa+ adds Hindi support and local integrations

Users can switch between Hindi and English during conversations, while Alexa+ also connects with India-based services including Swiggy, Zomato’s District platform, TripAdvisor, MakeMyTrip, EazyDiner, Amazon Music, and JioSaavn.

Amazon previously tested Alexa+ with users in India before the wider launch. The company’s earlier beta testing efforts focused on bringing AI-powered conversations to Indian users with local language support, as reported during the Alexa+ testing phase in India.

Pricing and availability

During Early Access, Alexa+ is available to customers in India. Amazon said the assistant will become free for Prime members after testing, while non-Prime customers will pay ₹2,000 per month.

Amazon launched Alexa in India in English in 2017 and added Hindi support in 2019. The company is targeting a market of more than 600 million Hindi speakers and said its smart home device business grew 20% compared with last year.

The launch shows Amazon’s effort to make voice-based AI assistants more relevant for Indian users by combining multilingual conversations with local services and everyday tasks.
