For Cyriac Lefort, the inspiration for his new startup, MyHair AI, came during a routine haircut in New York two years ago. The 32-year-old French entrepreneur recalls his hairdresser telling him, “You’re starting to lose a bit of hair.”

“He didn’t say that to my friend sitting next to me, just to me,” Lefort said. “At the time, I didn’t think I was balding, and I still don’t. But when someone tells you you’re losing hair, you tend to buy whatever they suggest.”

Lefort purchased the shampoo recommended by the hairdresser, realising how emotional and confusing the hair-loss industry can be for both men and women. His curiosity led him down a rabbit hole of misinformation, unverified clinic reviews, and unclear solutions. A subsequent visit to a hair doctor confirmed he wasn’t actually balding.

This experience inspired Lefort to create an AI-powered solution for diagnosing hair loss.

A serial entrepreneur, Lefort teamed up with Tilen Babnik, 28, to launch their third company, MyHair AI. In just a few weeks, they “vibe coded” the product. Users upload photos of their scalp to the app, and the AI analyses hair density and early signs of hair loss. Over time, the platform tracks changes, helping users develop personalised hair loss prevention routines. It also connects users with specialists and clinics, providing verified reviews to prevent scams.

“Our AI tells you what’s actually happening with your hair, matches you with products suited to your hair type, and explains the science and potential side effects,” Lefort said. “By bringing transparency and medical accuracy to this $50 billion market, we aim to completely change how people understand, treat, and shop for hair health.”

The development process included a year of ideation, a few weeks of vibe coding on Cursor, months of scientific and clinical validation, and a consumer-ready app launch this summer. Lefort explained that the initial prototype required no hires, though engineers now maintain and scale the platform.

MyHair AI already has over 1,000 paying subscribers and 200,000 user accounts, with the app analysing more than 300,000 scalp photos. The company partners with clinics and specialists to help them assess patients faster. Recently, dermatologist Dr Tess joined the company’s board.

While other players in the market include Hims, Lefort highlights that MyHair AI is distinct because it relies on a dedicated AI model trained on over 300,000 hair images to diagnose hair loss, rather than a generic large language model.

Looking ahead, MyHair AI plans to expand its platform, build a booking system, and partner with more clinics. Lefort aims to create AI that works effectively in real-world settings.

“Men worry about two major health issues: sexual dysfunction and hair loss,” Lefort said. “We address one of the biggest day-to-day concerns.”
