Figma Partners with Google to Add Gemini AI to Its Design Platform
Figma has partnered with Google to integrate Gemini AI models into its design platform, enhancing its image generation and editing capabilities. The move aims to streamline workflows for the platform's millions of active users and strengthen Figma’s commitment to AI-powered design tools.
Design platform Figma has announced a partnership with Google to incorporate more AI features into its design software. Although Figma had already introduced its own AI app-building tools, this new collaboration with Google brings several Gemini AI models into Figma’s toolset to address the “evolving needs” of product designers and their teams.
New AI Models Integrated Into Figma
As part of the partnership, Gemini 2.5 Flash, Gemini 2.0, and Imagen 4 will be integrated into Figma, while the company continues its relationship with Google Cloud.
Gemini 2.5 Flash will play a significant role in image editing and in Figma’s image generation capabilities. This allows Figma’s 13 million monthly active users to create AI-generated images by simply providing a prompt and requesting changes. According to Figma, earlier tests of Gemini 2.5 Flash showed a 50% reduction in latency for the company’s “Make Image” feature, improving the workflow efficiency.
A Competitive AI Landscape
The partnership with Google is part of a broader trend where leading AI companies are integrating their models into widely used platforms to gain consumer adoption. For example, OpenAI recently announced that its users can now “chat” with apps directly in ChatGPT, including apps from Spotify, Booking.com, Expedia, Coursera, Zillow, Canva, and more — with Figma also part of this lineup.
While this Figma-Google collaboration is a significant move, it’s not exclusive. Google also announced the launch of Gemini Enterprise, an AI-powered conversational platform designed to help enterprise customers integrate AI into their existing workflows. With this platform, users can interact with their company’s documents, data, and applications through AI-powered tools and agents.
Google’s Push for AI Efficiency
Google has framed this news as part of the broader mission to increase efficiency and streamline workflows with AI. As more businesses integrate AI tools into their operations, Google sees the potential to charge companies for these efficiencies — particularly as consumer-driven AI profits are becoming a significant force in the industry.
Google Cloud has reported that 65% of its customers are already using its AI products, further indicating the growing reliance on AI in business operations.
Expanding the AI Ecosystem
In addition to the Figma partnership, Google has secured other AI deals with companies like GAP, Gordon Foods, Klarna, Macquarie Bank, Melexis, Mercedes, Signal Iduna, Valiuz, and Virgin Voyages. These companies join existing partners like Banco BV, Behr, Box, DBS Bank, Deloitte, Deutsche Telekom, FairPrice Group, and the U.S. Department of Energy, all of whom are leveraging Gemini AI.
