YouTube Announces New Generative AI Tools for Shorts Creators
YouTube unveils new generative AI tools for Shorts creators, including Veo 3 Fast, remixing features, and Edit with AI to speed up video creation.
At its Made on YouTube live event on Tuesday, the company introduced a suite of new generative AI tools designed for Shorts creators. These include a customised version of Google’s text-to-video model Veo 3, a new remixing option, an “Edit with AI” feature, and more.
The customised version of the model, called Veo 3 Fast, produces lower-latency outputs at 480p, enabling faster clip generation. For the first time, YouTube says, users can now create video clips with sound included.
The rollout begins in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, with plans to extend availability to additional regions over time.
YouTube is also expanding Veo’s functionality within Shorts, allowing creators to apply motion from videos to images. For example, a still photo could be animated by transferring a dance move from another clip. This works by capturing and mapping motion between subjects.
In addition, Veo now lets creators enhance their Shorts with different visual styles such as origami or pop art. Users can also insert new objects—like props or characters—through simple text prompts. These updates will be made available in the coming months.
The platform is also launching a new remixing tool. Creators will be able to transform dialogue from eligible videos into catchy musical soundtracks for Shorts.
“As the world’s largest creative playground, YouTube is where trends are born and where you can draw inspiration from. Imagine hearing a line of dialogue that sparks an idea—a funny phrase, a memorable quote, or a one-of-a-kind sound—and you want to remix it into a new sound,” said Dina Berrada, YouTube’s Director of Product for Shorts and Generative AI Creation.
This Speech to Song feature is powered by Google’s Lyria 2 AI music model, which allows creators to customise the mood of the track—choosing vibes like chill, danceable, or fun. YouTube says testing will begin shortly, with a U.S. rollout planned in the coming weeks.
Another feature, Edit with AI, is designed to accelerate the editing process. It turns raw footage into a first draft by automatically selecting highlights, adding background music, transitions, and even voiceovers that respond to the visuals. The tool currently supports English and Hindi.
YouTube says Edit with AI is being tested for Shorts and the YouTube Create app, with gradual expansion to more markets expected in the weeks ahead.
