Google Launches an AI-Powered Mood Board App, Mixboard
Google has launched Mixboard, an AI-powered mood board app that uses text prompts and its Nano Banana editing model to help users create, edit, and reimagine creative collages for décor, events, fashion, and more.
Google has unveiled its latest AI experiment, Mixboard, a creative tool designed to help users build AI-powered mood boards, stepping into the same space dominated by Pinterest.
Similar to Pinterest’s collage feature, Mixboard enables users to create mood boards with carefully curated images. However, unlike Pinterest, users don’t need to have a library of saved images already. With Mixboard, projects can begin simply by entering text prompts, letting AI generate visuals that bring ideas to life. Users can also start with pre-populated boards that can be edited for inspiration and guidance.

Currently available as a public beta in the U.S. via Google Labs, Mixboard enables users to create, edit, and combine AI-generated images. It leverages Google’s Nano Banana image editing model, praised for its ability to manage complex edits while producing realistic results.
After generating images, users can ask the AI to apply edits, make adjustments, or reimagine entire boards. Additional options allow for the “regeneration” of images or the creation of “more like this.” The AI can also produce text captions based on the visuals within a mood board.
Google suggests Mixboard can be used for home décor planning, event themes, DIY projects, fashion styling, and brainstorming creative ideas.

The launch comes as younger audiences continue to embrace digital collaging. Pinterest achieved viral success with its standalone collage app, Shuffles, which was popular among Gen Z users for creating TikTok-like content before being incorporated into the central Pinterest platform. Other startups, such as Landing (now closed) and Verse, an AI-driven Company, also explored this space. Meanwhile, Depop has recently introduced its own collaging tool, allowing users to style and sell outfits.
Mixboard also reflects the rising popularity of Nano Banana, which has been in demand since its debut. The launch follows the success of Google’s Gemini AI app, which recently overtook ChatGPT on the U.S. App Store.
Users in the U.S. can try Mixboard now by visiting labs.google/mixboard. Google has also opened a Discord community for users to share feedback and ideas.
