Google Revamps Discover Page to Show Content from Creators
Google is updating its Discover page in the Search app to let users follow publishers and creators, providing more personalized content including articles, YouTube Shorts, and posts from X and Instagram.
Google announced on Wednesday that it’s updating the Discover page in its flagship Search app to allow users to follow specific publishers and creators, enabling them to see more content from their preferred sources.
This update follows a feature that Google rolled out last month, which allowed users to select their choice of news sites and blogs for the Top Stories section in search results.
In the coming weeks, Google says users will begin to see a wider variety of content on Discover, including articles, YouTube Shorts, and posts from X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram from creators and publishers across the web. Moving forward, Google plans to incorporate more types of sources into this mix.
With these changes, Google aims to give users more control over the content they see, while also broadening the range of sources available on the Discover page.
However, the exact criteria for how creator content will be selected for display on the Discover page remain unclear, as Google did not respond to questions about this before publication.
To use this feature, when users come across content from a specific publisher or creator, they can tap on the creator’s name to view all their content on a single page and follow them. Google will then show more content from the sources they choose to follow.
These announcements come at a time when publishers have seen a decline in traffic due to Google’s AI-powered search. To address this, the company also introduced a product called Offerwall, which allows publishers to earn revenue from sources other than traditional ads.
