Roblox’s 4D Creation Feature Is Now Available in Open Beta
Roblox has released its 4D creation feature in open beta, allowing creators to build interactive, functional objects rather than static 3D models.
Last year, Roblox introduced an open-source AI model that generates 3D objects on its platform, allowing users to quickly create digital items such as furniture, vehicles, and accessories. The tool, known as Cube 3D, has already been used to generate more than 1.8 million 3D objects since its rollout in March.
On Wednesday, Roblox launched the open beta for its long-anticipated 4D creation feature, which lets creators build not only static 3D models but also fully functional, interactive objects. The feature has been available in early access since November.
Roblox says the key addition with 4D creation is interactivity. Using this technology, creators can design objects that move, respond, and react to players within a game environment.
At launch, creators can experiment with two different object templates, known as schemas.
The first schema, called “Car-5,” is designed to generate a vehicle composed of five separate components: a main body and four individual wheels. Previously, cars on Roblox were created as single, rigid 3D objects with no independent movement. With the new system, objects are broken down into individual parts, each assigned its own behaviour. This allows the AI to generate cars with spinning wheels, making them far more dynamic and realistic.
The second schema, “Body-1,” is intended for objects made from a single piece, such as simple boxes, sculptures, or other standalone items.
The first live experience featuring 4D generation is a game called Wish Master, where players can generate and interact with objects such as drivable cars, flyable planes, and even dragons.
Looking ahead, Roblox plans to allow creators to build their own custom schemas, giving them greater flexibility to define how objects behave and interact. The company also says it is developing new technology that could generate detailed 3D models from a reference image, matching the image’s visual style.
Roblox continues to invest heavily in AI-powered creation tools. One such initiative, internally referred to as “real-time dreaming,” aims to let creators generate entire worlds using real-time text prompts and keyboard navigation. Roblox CEO David Baszucki described the project last month as a way to dramatically speed up world-building on the platform.
The launch of the open beta follows Roblox’s recent rollout of mandatory facial verification for users seeking access to chat features. That policy change came amid lawsuits and regulatory investigations focused on child safety on the platform.
