Discord Users Can Now Buy In-Game Items Without Leaving the Platform
Discord now lets users buy in-game items directly on the platform, starting with Marvel Rivals, and offers wishlists, gifting, and new monetisation options for developers.
As Discord moves closer to an IPO, the company is introducing new commerce features designed to enrich the gaming experience while opening additional revenue opportunities for developers.
Announced on Tuesday, the updates allow users to purchase digital in-game items directly within Discord, eliminating the need to switch to external storefronts. Users can also create wishlists for game items and send in-game gifts to friends through direct messages.
If Discord does go public, financial performance will be closely watched, making these features a strategic move. By allowing developers to sell digital goods within Discord, the platform enables studios to reach larger audiences beyond their dedicated game communities, potentially boosting earnings for both developers and Discord.
The first rollout of the feature is launching with Marvel Rivals, a significant title that now has a dedicated store page inside its official Discord server.

Marvel Rivals is a strong choice for the debut: the game attracted 10 million players within 72 hours of its release last year, brought in over $100 million in its first month, and has amassed a Discord community of more than 4 million members.
Players can now browse and purchase in-game items directly within the Marvel Rivals server, including bundles, costumes, emotes, emojis, and more.
Users can also build wishlists that friends can view and buy from. With the holiday season approaching, the timing is ideal — the feature makes it easier to find gifts for gamer friends and family. Because items can be gifted via direct messages, users can send items even to friends who don’t play Marvel Rivals.
For now, the shop supports U.S. currency and is available only on the desktop app for users in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, and Oceania. Discord says it may expand support to more regions in the future.
