TV Time Co-Founder Launches Bingers to Bring Back Social TV Tracking

Bingers, a new TV and movie tracking app created by TV Time co-founder Antonio Pinto, has officially launched following the shutdown of the once-popular TV Time platform. The new app aims to restore the social features that helped TV Time build a loyal community before its owner, Whip Media, discontinued the service to focus on artificial intelligence initiatives.

TV Time had been downloaded more than 26.4 million times before it was removed from app stores. Its closure prompted a strong reaction from users, with more than 28,000 people signing a petition asking Whip Media to keep the service running through crowdfunding or subscription support. Despite those efforts, the app was shut down as planned.

Pinto said the response from users convinced him that TV Time offered something few competing services had managed to replicate. Beyond tracking episodes and movies, the platform allowed fans to discuss new episodes, share theories, post memes and interact with others who enjoyed the same shows.

Bingers brings back TV tracking and community features

Bingers is designed around three main functions: tracking television shows and movies, discovering new content to watch and giving users a social space to interact with fellow fans.

Like its predecessor, users can create profiles, comment on shows and movies, upload photos and GIFs, rate episodes, react with emojis and vote for favourite characters. Pinto said these community-driven features helped distinguish TV Time from other watchlist apps and remain central to Bingers.

The app also supports importing viewing history from TV Time. Before shutting down, TV Time provided a GDPR-compliant data export tool, and Bingers allows users to upload that archive to restore their watch history.

Designed with lower operating costs

Pinto said Bingers has been engineered differently to reduce the infrastructure costs that contributed to TV Time’s closure. Much of each user’s library, including viewing calendars and watchlists, is processed directly on the user’s device instead of relying heavily on company servers.

Initially, Bingers plans to cover server expenses through voluntary user contributions, reflecting the funding model many TV Time users had requested before the previous app closed. Pinto said he also has longer-term plans for a broader business model focused on bringing entertainment fans together in person, though additional details have not yet been announced.

Bingers is now available on both iOS and Android, offering former TV Time users a new platform that combines TV and movie tracking with the community features that made the original app popular.
