Granola Brings AI Meeting Transcription to Apple Watch

AI-powered note-taking startup Granola has launched an Apple Watch app, giving users a new way to record conversations and generate meeting notes without relying on their smartphones.

The new app allows users to start transcribing directly from their Apple Watch and can be added as a watch face complication for quick access. It also integrates with Granola’s iPhone app, displaying reminders for upcoming meetings and syncing recordings across devices.

According to co-founder Chris Pedregal, the Apple Watch version is designed primarily for in-person meetings where pulling out a phone may be inconvenient, such as walking meetings or informal discussions. Instead, users can begin recording discreetly from their wrist while continuing the conversation.

Focus on hands-free meeting capture.

Granola said internal testing showed many employees who owned Apple Watches shifted a significant portion of their mobile usage from the iPhone to the wearable after the app became available.

The company believes the smartwatch offers a simpler alternative to carrying separate AI recording devices, which have become increasingly popular for capturing and transcribing meetings. Rather than building support for third-party hardware, Granola chose to expand ontoApple’ss existing wearable platform.

The launch follows a broader trend of AI productivity tools moving beyond traditional desktop and smartphone apps. Earlier this year, dictation app Monologue also introduced Apple Watch support alongside new online and offline meeting transcription features.

Expansion follows major funding round.

The Apple Watch app arrives just months after Granola reached unicorn status. Earlier this year, the company raised a $125 million Series C funding round led by Index Ventures, providing additional capital to expand its AI-powered productivity platform.

With the new wearable app, Granola is aiming to make meeting transcription more accessible by allowing users to capture conversations naturally, without needing to keep a smartphone in hand.
