Instagram is giving users more control over their profiles with a new feature that allows tagged posts to appear directly on the main profile grid.

The update means users no longer need to repost a photo or ask to be added as a collaborator just to feature content they were tagged in. Instagram has started rolling out the new profile-grid option to users.

A tagged post can be added to the grid from the direct-message notification sent when someone is tagged, from the post itself or through the Tagged section of a profile.

Tagged posts can be added or removed at any time

Adding a tagged post to the main grid does not create a duplicate or change the original upload. The post remains owned by the original account and continues to appear in its existing location.

Users can also remove the tagged post from their main grid later without deleting it from their Tagged section. That gives people more flexibility over how their profile looks without affecting the original content.

The feature could be particularly useful for group photos, events and shared experiences where another person publishes the strongest image first. Instead of uploading the same photo again, users can now highlight the original tagged post on their own profiles.

Creators gain another way to showcase collaborations

Instagram says the feature can also support creator collaborations and brand campaigns. Creators can display posts they have been tagged in without republishing the content or relying on Instagram’s existing Invite Collaborators feature.

The update follows Instagram’s broader effort to give users more control over profile presentation. In June, the platform introduced a grid-reordering feature that allows users to rearrange posts on their main profile.

Instagram has also recently added tools including First Draft, which can automatically create an initial video edit from selected clips, and Replace Audio, which allows users to update music on an existing post.

For users and creators, the tagged-post update adds a simple way to bring relevant content into the main profile without changing who originally published it.
