Adobe introduces Firefly AI assistant that can complete tasks across Creative Cloud apps
Adobe’s new Firefly AI assistant integrates with Creative Cloud apps to automate tasks, streamline workflows, and boost productivity for designers and creators.
Last October, Adobe introduced a preview of a new assistant called “Project Moonlight,” designed to perform tasks across multiple Adobe applications, such as Acrobat, Photoshop, and Express. That concept is now becoming a full product and is officially launching as the Firefly AI Assistant.
The Firefly AI Assistant is expected to enter public beta in the coming weeks. Adobe has not yet clarified whether this assistant will be included within existing Firefly credit-based subscription plans or offered under a separate pricing structure.
Like other AI-driven creative tools, the Firefly AI Assistant lets users describe what they want to create, and the system handles execution. According to Adobe, the assistant is designed to operate seamlessly across a wide range of its applications, including Firefly, Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, Express, Illustrator, and others, enabling it to carry out tasks across different workflows.
Users will be able to guide and refine outputs using text prompts and interactive elements such as buttons and sliders. The assistant can recommend actions, coordinate processes across multiple applications, and execute complete workflows, while still allowing users to step in and make adjustments when needed.
The assistant is also designed to adapt its interface based on the task at hand. For example, when editing a product image set in a forest environment, it might present a simple slider that lets users increase or decrease the amount of trees and foliage in the scene. Over time, Adobe says the assistant will learn user preferences and begin suggesting more personalised actions.
In addition, Adobe is introducing a feature called “skills,” which bundles multiple steps into a single action. One example is the “social media assets” skill, which can automatically adapt images for different platforms by resizing or expanding them, optimising file sizes, and saving the results in appropriate formats.
Adobe has been steadily working on integrating AI assistants into its ecosystem, including tools for Photoshop, Express, and Acrobat. The company also noted that it is exploring ways to improve compatibility between these assistants and third-party large language models.
Competitors such as Canva and Figma are also developing agent-based workflows. However, Adobe believes its advantage lies in bringing together its widely used tools into a unified system.
“We have the opportunity with the Firefly AI assistant and agentic experiences to reduce the complexity of learning our broad set of tools and deliver that value directly to users,” said Alexandru Costin, vice president of AI and innovation for Adobe’s creativity and productivity business.
Alongside the assistant, Adobe is also introducing updates to its Firefly platform. The AI-powered video editor will now include features such as speech noise reduction, improved control over reverb and music, and enhanced colour adjustment tools. It also now integrates with Adobe’s stock content library.
Additionally, Adobe is expanding Firefly’s capabilities by incorporating third-party AI models, including Kling 3.0 and Kling 3.0 Omni, into its growing ecosystem of supported technologies.
