Disney+ Partners With TikTok to Bring Fan Videos Into Its Streaming App
Disney+ is partnering with TikTok to feature fan-created videos in its Verts short-form feed while expanding creator opportunities.
Disney is partnering with TikTok to bring fan-created videos directly into the Disney+ streaming app, expanding its push into short-form content while giving creators new opportunities to connect with audiences across the company’s biggest entertainment franchises.
The partnership will begin with a pilot programme in the United States over the coming months before expanding to additional markets. Under the agreement, Disney-focused fan videos published on TikTok featuring franchises such as Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars will appear within the “Verts” section of Disney+, the streaming service’s dedicated short-form video feed.
Disney introduced the Verts feature several months ago as streaming companies increasingly compete with social media platforms for viewers’ attention. Netflix, HBO Max and Prime Video have also introduced or expanded short-form video experiences as part of similar efforts to increase user engagement.
Expanding creator opportunities
Alongside the content partnership, Disney has launched the Disney Creator Ambassador Program, giving selected TikTok creators access to the company’s extensive entertainment library. Participants will also have opportunities to earn rewards, increase their visibility, attend exclusive events and pursue career opportunities within Disney’s broader entertainment ecosystem.
The initiative reflects Disney’s growing recognition that many emerging creative talents are building audiences through social media platforms before moving into traditional entertainment. Other streaming services, including Tubi and Peacock, have also worked with TikTok creators to develop original long-form programming for their platforms.
Building on Disney’s short-form strategy
The agreement follows Disney’s broader efforts to strengthen the amount and variety of content available through Verts. Last year, the company announced plans for a three-year licensing agreement with OpenAI that included a significant investment intended to support AI-generated short-form videos featuring Disney characters through OpenAI’s Sora platform.
Those plans were abandoned after OpenAI shut down Sora in March, prompting Disney to explore other approaches for expanding short-form content within Disney+.
Announcement coincides with strong quarterly results.
The TikTok partnership was announced alongside Disney’s third-quarter financial results. The company reported that operating income from its subscription video-on-demand business more than doubled to $712 million, compared with $329 million during the same period a year earlier.
Disney also announced a corporate restructuring that will move its consumer products business from the Experiences division into the Studios division, as the entertainment company continues to reshape its operations while investing in creator-driven content and new digital experiences.
