Google Play introduces paid and PC games, trials, community posts, and new features

On Wednesday, Google announced a broad set of gaming-focused updates for Google Play at GDC 2026. The company said Google Play is expanding its catalogue to include anticipated paid titles and PC indie games, launching game trials, introducing “buy once, play anywhere” pricing, rolling out a wishlist feature, and adding community posts.

The updates suggest Google is working to turn Google Play into a more complete gaming hub by giving players the ability to try games before purchasing them, play across mobile and PC, sync their progress, and interact with the gaming community all in one place.

Google said it is expanding its library over the coming months to include more paid games, such as Moonlight Peaks, Sledging Game, 9 Kings, Potion Craft, and Low-Budget Repairs. These games will be playable on both mobile and PC through Google Play Games, with Gamer Profiles syncing progress across devices.

To help users decide whether they want to buy a game, Google is introducing game trials. If players enjoy a title, they can purchase it and continue from where they left off during the trial period. Google said game trials will begin rolling out soon for select paid games on mobile and will come to Google Play Games on PC at a later date.

Google Play’s new “Buy once, play anywhere” pricing model will also let users access both the mobile and PC versions of a game with a single purchase. The feature is launching on select paid titles, including the Reigns series, OTTTD, and Dungeon Clawler.

For people who prefer gaming on desktops, Google is adding a new PC section to the Play Store’s Games tab, providing a dedicated space for titles optimised for Windows PCs. If users find a title they are interested in, they can add it to a wishlist and get notifications when it goes on sale.

The company is also introducing community posts, allowing users to ask and answer game-related questions directly inside Google Play. With this addition, Google is aiming to make its app store a place where players can also discuss games, something they currently often do on platforms like Reddit.

Community Posts is now available in English for select popular games, with support for more languages and more games expected to arrive soon.

Google also said it is bringing Play Games Sidekick, its AI-powered in-game overlay announced last year that offers real-time gaming assistance through Gemini Live, to select paid games.

Wednesday’s announcement comes six months after Google introduced a redesigned Play Games experience with a new Games tab that brought together stat and achievement tracking, rewards, and community features in one place. At the same time, the company launched Play Games Leagues, which let users challenge friends and compete for Play Points rewards.

That redesigned Play Games experience launched alongside an updated Apps tab, a new tab focused on users’ interests, and Gemini-powered tools, including a “Guided Search” feature that lets users find the app or game they want by typing a goal or idea instead of the app’s name.
