Google rolls out Gemini Personal Intelligence feature in India

Google announced on Tuesday that it is rolling out Gemini’s Personal Intelligence feature to users in India, marking another step in expanding its AI capabilities to one of its largest markets. The feature allows users to connect their Google accounts — including services like Gmail and Google Photos — and ask Gemini questions to receive tailored, personalised responses.

Once users link their accounts, they can make queries such as “What are my travel plans for Jaipur?” and receive information pulled from their emails, images, or other stored data. The system can also draw on context from recently watched YouTube content to provide suggestions or ideas. Google noted that Gemini will clearly identify the sources used in its responses, allowing users to verify the accuracy of the information.

At launch, the Personal Intelligence feature will be available only to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in India. However, the company said it intends to extend free-tier access in the coming weeks.

The rollout in India follows earlier launches of the feature in other regions. Google first introduced Personal Intelligence in beta in the United States in January for select paid users, then expanded it to all users in March. The feature has also been introduced in Japan.

Google acknowledged that Gemini may not always interpret personal data correctly. The company cautioned that the system can sometimes misread context or draw incorrect conclusions from user data. For example, it might incorrectly assume someone enjoys a particular activity based on repeated appearances in photos, even if the underlying reason is different.

“Gemini may also struggle with timing or nuance, particularly regarding relationship changes, like divorces, or your various interests. For instance, seeing hundreds of photos of you at a golf course might lead one to assume you love golf. But it misses the nuance: You don’t love golf, but you love your son, and that’s why you’re there. If Gemini gets this wrong, you can tell it (‘I don’t like golf’),” the company explained in a blog post.

The launch highlights Google’s accelerated push to introduce advanced AI features in India. In March, the company integrated Gemini into the Chrome browser for users in the country. More recently, it also enabled an agent-driven experience for booking restaurants through its AI mode by partnering with platforms such as Zomato, Swiggy, and EazyDiner.
