Informant told FBI that Jeffrey Epstein had a ‘personal hacker’
A confidential informant told the FBI in 2017 that Jeffrey Epstein employed a “personal hacker,” according to newly released U.S. Justice Department documents.
A confidential informant told the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 2017 that Jeffrey Epstein employed a so-called “personal hacker,” according to a document released by the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday.
The document was made public as part of the Justice Department’s legally mandated process to release records connected to its investigation into the late sex offender. While the filing does not name the alleged hacker, it includes several specific claims about the individual.
According to the informant, the hacker was an Italian national born in the southern region of Calabria and possessed advanced technical skills, particularly in identifying security flaws in Apple’s iOS, BlackBerry devices, and the Firefox web browser.
The informant alleged that the individual was capable of developing zero-day exploits and offensive cyber tools, which he reportedly sold to multiple governments. Those buyers allegedly included an unnamed Central African government, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The informant further claimed that the hacker sold a zero-day exploit to Hezbollah, which allegedly paid for it with “a trunk of cash.”
According to the informant, the hacker “was very good at finding vulnerabilities.”

On Friday, the Justice Department also announced the release of an additional 3.5 million pages of documents related to Epstein. The newly disclosed materials, many heavily redacted, reportedly include more than 2,000 videos and approximately 180,000 images.
