LinkedIn is introducing a new way for users to prove their “vibe coding” skills, giving professionals a more concrete way to show AI proficiency directly on their profiles. The company announced a new partnership that will allow users to earn official certifications in AI-related skills based on how they actually use popular AI-powered tools.

Under the program, LinkedIn will work with several AI-focused platforms to assess users in real-world scenarios rather than through traditional tests. The first group of partners includes the video and podcast editing platform Descript, coding tools such as Lovable and Replit, and the AI agent-building service Relay.app.

These platforms will use AI to evaluate how users work within their products over time. Certifications will be generated based on usage patterns, output quality, and overall proficiency with the tools. LinkedIn said the process is designed to reflect practical ability rather than just theoretical knowledge. The Microsoft-owned platform did not share specific thresholds or criteria that users must meet to be labelled “proficient.”

Once awarded, verified skill certifications will appear on a user’s LinkedIn profile alongside other professional skills, offering recruiters and employers a clearer signal of what candidates can actually do. The company says this approach is meant to bridge the gap between resumes and real-world capability, especially as AI tools become central to many jobs.

LinkedIn plans to expand the program in the coming months by adding more partners. Companies already slated to join include presentation and content tools like Gamma, developer-focused platforms such as GitHub, and workflow automation services like Zapier. LinkedIn is also inviting other companies to register interest in becoming part of the verified skills initiative.

“Jobs require fluency in the technology your employer depends on and AI proficiency; the ability to use these tools to deliver today is now the most in-demand skill,” said Hari Sirinivasan, LinkedIn’s vice president of product. “Today, trust matters more than ever. More than 100 million professionals have verified their identity on LinkedIn. Now, with the addition of verified skills, you can add an additional way to prove what you can actually do.”

The move comes as demand for AI skills continues to surge across industries. A report published last August by the learning platform edX found that job postings requiring AI skills doubled over 12 months. Similar findings were highlighted in a separate analysis from Indeed’s Hiring Lab, which showed that U.S. job postings mentioning AI-related keywords climbed to 4.2% by the end of 2025.

While technology roles still dominate AI-related hiring, the Indeed report noted that other sectors—including banking, marketing, and professional services—are increasingly using AI-focused language in job listings. LinkedIn’s new certification program appears designed to tap into that broader shift, giving workers across industries a way to demonstrate hands-on AI competence in a more credible, verifiable way.
