Nintendo files lawsuit against the US government seeking tariff refund

Nintendo filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government on Friday over the collection of tariffs on imports. The gaming company is seeking a refund for any duties it paid as a result of President Donald Trump’s executive orders issued under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade, follows a Supreme Court decision striking down the tariffs imposed by the president under IEEPA, which argued that he exceeded the authority granted to him. More than 1,000 other companies have already filed lawsuits seeking refunds for the tariffs they paid. According to Nintendo’s complaint, those tariffs have led to the collection of more than $200 billion on imports overall.

“We can confirm that we have filed a request,” Nintendo said in a statement. “We have nothing else to share on the topic.”

After the Supreme Court’s ruling — which he described as “extraordinarily anti-American” — President Trump increased tariffs from 10% to 15%. Since then, 24 states have filed lawsuits arguing that the president once again exceeded his authority by making that change.
