Amazon is introducing new one-hour and three-hour delivery services across numerous cities in the United States, as it looks to compete more directly with rapid-delivery platforms such as Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats.

Through this initiative, more than 90,000 products will be available for faster delivery. Items eligible for these timeframes will display a label in the Amazon app indicating whether they can arrive within one or three hours. Users can also filter search results to show only products available through these new delivery options.

Pricing for the service varies depending on whether customers have an Amazon Prime subscription. Prime members will pay $9.99 for one-hour delivery and $4.99 for three-hour delivery. Non-Prime users will be charged $19.99 for one-hour delivery and $14.99 for three-hour delivery.

Amazon said the one-hour delivery option is being introduced in hundreds of cities, including major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., as well as smaller locations like Des Moines, Boise, and American Fork. The three-hour delivery service will be available in more than 2,000 cities and towns across the country.

The company is also launching a dedicated storefront to showcase products that qualify for these expedited delivery options.

“Our customers are busier than ever and are looking for new ways to save time while keeping their households running. We saw an opportunity to use our unique operational expertise and delivery network to help make customers’ lives a little easier while unlocking even more value for Prime members,” said Udit Madan, senior vice president of Worldwide Operations at Amazon, in a statement.

Amazon noted that it is leveraging its existing same-day fulfilment centres to support the rollout of these faster-delivery services.

This is not the company’s first attempt at rapid delivery. In 2014, Amazon introduced one-hour delivery through its Prime Now service, which was discontinued in 2021. More recently, in December 2025, the company tested a 30-minute delivery pilot in Seattle and Philadelphia.

Amazon has also been expanding its quick-commerce efforts globally. In India, it launched Amazon Now in 2024, offering 10-minute delivery for groceries and other items, and later expanded the service to additional cities. In the United Arab Emirates, a similar service launched last October, promising deliveries within 15 minutes.
